Steeplebush

Spiraea tomentosa

The Steeplebush is a small, attractive shrub which yields a showy cluster of tiny pink flowers that bloom during late summer. This shrub’s name is derived from its tall, steeple-shaped flower spikes. This species produces alternate, elliptical and coarsely toothed leaves which turn bright gold during the fall. This shrub’s central stem is brown and initially covered with fuzzy brown hairs, but becomes hairless and woody with age. This is a great plant to have on your property as it attracts butterflies, remains low, and is visually appealing. The Steeplebush requires moist, acidic soils for optimal growth.
