Agastache foeniculum

The Giant Hyssop is a perennial wildflower species that can grow about 1 m tall. This plant may also be known by the common names Anise Hyssop or Lavender Giant Hyssop. The leaves are dull green, ovate shaped, and have toothed margins. The flowers are small, lavender to purple coloured, have two lipped petals, appear on terminal cylindrical spikes, and bloom between June and September. The flowers are attractive to pollinator species like bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Deadhead spent flowers to promote new blooms. The flowers, seeds, and leaves are edible for humans.

Giant Hyssop grows best in normal to dry conditions with full or partial sun exposure. This plant can grow in moist soils but should be well drained. It can grow in a variety of soil types with a normal pH level. It can tolerate drought and dry soil but young plants should be watered occasionally during hot summers. This wildflower may be naturally found in prairies, dry upland forests, fields, and dry meadows.
