Together, Greening Sacred Spaces Ottawa and Watersheds Canada are delivering the Ottawa Faith Community Capacity Building Program! This two-year project provides Ottawa and surrounding area faith communities with the tools and resources their leaders and volunteers need to identify a freshwater stewardship need in their community, gain knowledge and skills using an information toolkit, and lead a greening project through a microgrant program opportunity. This program is possible thanks to generous funding from the Ottawa Community Foundation, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, and the Living Cities Canada Fund of Green Communities Canada.
Microgrant applications are now closed. In total, six Ottawa and surrounding area faith communities were selected to participate in the program and their stewardship projects are underway.
The Freshwater Stewardship Engagement toolkit is now available for faith communities and the public to use to lead the following types of greening projects:
- Community Gardens
- Community Science
- Fish Habitat
- Green Audits and Retrofits
- Indigenous Water Education
- Invasive Species Management
- Natural Shorelines
- Shoreline Cleanups
- Stormwater Management
- Youth Engagement
