Thanks to generous funding from Canada Summer Jobs, Watersheds Canada is able to grow our staff team and deliver critical on-the-ground programming this summer! We are excited to welcome back some summer students this year, including Alana, Tanice, and Cole, and welcome new summer students, Ty and Jonathan. Let’s meet the students!
Alana – Education programs administrator
Alana is a student at the University of Guelph majoring in Bio-Medical Science with a minor in Neuroscience. She loves spending time outdoors and is passionate about environmental sustainability. Alana is excited for the opportunity to return to Watersheds Canada again this summer to continue educating Canadians and promoting freshwater stewardship. She enjoys growing plants, camping, hiking, crafting, and sharing laughs with family and friends!

Andres is an environmental professional dedicated to championing sustainable practices and making a difference in the world. With his degree in Environmental Sciences graduate from the University of Calgary and experience working and volunteering in sustainability projects in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Canada, he will contribute to Watershed Canada’s mission by utilizing his strong analytical skills and passion for conservation.
He is deeply fascinated with ecosystems’ interconnectedness, particularly in freshwater environments. Andres believes that sustainable stewardship of our water resources is key to a balanced ecosystem and a healthier planet. He is excited to join Watersheds Canada and looks forward to contributing to a future where everyone recognizes their power to protect freshwater. His work will tie to the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, #13: Climate Action, and #15: Life on Land. He will develop and implement best-management practices, education projects, and resources and tools for individuals and freshwater groups to use to take local action.
Nathaniel has long been keen to spend time outside, from working at summer camps to vegetable farming and playing outdoor sports. An appreciation for time spent around freshwater and concern for environmental protection has guided much of his work and education choices.
Nathaniel graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Environmental Science/Studies and has been passionate about sustainable agriculture, energy, and conservation issues. These days he often spends his free time biking, paddling, and playing pick-up basketball.
