MEDIA RELEASE
April 21, 2023
Perth, ON – On the 21st of April, the Watersheds Canada team met with a representative of the Ontario Trillium Foundation to celebrate the $74,100 Resilient Communities Fund grant they received from the Foundation. The funds were used to conduct a waterfront land and property donation feasibility study. The study will be completed spring 2023 and will give waterfront property owners and their families new charitable giving options to ensure their legacy properties are protected for generations to come by donating them to Watersheds Canada.
“As we all move forward with equitable solutions for sustainable growth, this funding provides Watersheds Canada with the opportunity to explore new revenue streams as they continue their important work in the promotion of natural, healthy shorelines,” said John Jordan, MPP for Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston.
This grant will improve and increase the organization’s ability to develop new and/or alternative sources of revenues in a response to the decreased operations that took place due to the pandemic. This project will rebuild Watersheds Canada’s resilience and capacity to return to building healthy vibrant communities.
“This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will significantly strengthen the capacity of our organization to pivot and diversify our revenue,” said Robert Pye, Executive Director of Watersheds Canada. “This grant has allowed Watersheds Canada to gain new expertise as we find different ways to meet the growing demand for our freshwater stewardship and education programming and services, and assist those who are looking to make a long-term impact for their local freshwater by making a land or waterfront property donation. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”
