Potentilla arguta
Tall Cinquefoil is a perennial wildflower species that can grow up to 1 m in height. This plant may also be known by the common names: White Cinquefoil or Prairie Cinquefoil. The leaves are mostly basal, oval shaped, hairy, coarsely toothed, and are compound with 7-11 leaflets. The flowers are cream to white yellow coloured, have five petals and five pointed green sepals between each petal, have yellow centers, appear in branching clusters of 2-6 at the tips of flowering stems, and bloom between June and September. The flowers are attractive to pollinator species, like bees and butterflies.Tall Cinquefoil grows best in dry to normal conditions with full or partial sun exposure. It prefers well-drained soil but can grow in a variety of soil types, including clay. It is drought tolerant but young plants should be watered occasionally during hot summers. This wildflower can be naturally found in dry meadows, prairies, open forests, forest edges, and roadsides.
