Velvetleaf Blueberry

Vaccinium myrtilloides

The Velvetleaf Blueberry is a great plant to add to your landscape as it stays low and produces a delicious fruit. The Velvetleaf Blueberry is distinguished from other species of blueberries by the presence of velvety fine hairs, which cover both the young stems and its 4 cm long leaves. These alternately arranged leaves are elliptically shaped with smooth edges. This species produces small white and sometimes pink bell-shaped flowers at the tips of the branches, which give way to delicious blue berries. This species commonly forms dense colonies in a variety of conditions; from dry sandy soils in open forests, to rich, moist soils in meadows, bogs, and marshes.
