Watersheds Canada is excited to announce the launch of a new online resource library – a free, one-stop shop designed to make freshwater conservation information accessible to everyone. From waterfront property owners and municipal staff, to community associations, educators, families, and researchers, this digital library offers practical tools and resources across a wide array of topics to protect and restore Canada’s lakes, rivers, and shorelines.
The online resource library brings together hundreds of educational materials that have been developed by Watersheds Canada and its partners. Visitors can explore fact sheets, handouts, guides, webinars, templates, lesson plans, and activity books all centred around different topics like community science, shoreland protection, native wildlife, freshwater management, and invasive species. Each resource is designed to increase knowledge, and turn that knowledge into meaningful local action.
This open-source library allows people to get involved in freshwater stewardship at any level, anywhere across Canada. By offering free, accessible tools and educational materials, the library makes it easier for individuals and communities to take part in activities like community science data collection, native species identification, and other initiatives that contribute to healthier, more resilient watersheds. All resources are free to use and free to share, so please send them to whoever you think could use them! This includes posting things on your social media pages, website, or in a newsletter.

The library has been designed to support anyone who cares about the health of Canada’s freshwater environments. Waterfront property owners and lake associations will find practical guides to help them carry out restoration projects on their own properties or within their communities. Educators and families can explore a wide variety of hands-on learning materials, including engaging activity books and colouring pages that strive to make freshwater and habitat topics fun and accessible for all ages. Community leaders can utilize resources to inspire local action and possible community science initiatives. Meanwhile, researchers can access technical handouts and data-driven reports to support their professional studies.
This resource was made possible through the generous support of the S.M. Blair Family Foundation, and the Peterborough K.M. Hunter Charitable Foundation. Their commitment to freshwater health and environmental education ensures that communities across Canada can continue learning and protecting the places they love.
