November 21, 2025 — Watersheds Canada is celebrating the successful completion of another year delivering the Love Your Lake program, now in its thirteenth year of operation. In summer 2025, the team worked in Central-Eastern Ontario, assessing over 1,100 properties across five lakes: Sand Lake, Black Lake, North Otter Lake, South Otter Lake, and Eagle Lake.
This important work was made possible thanks to support from local volunteers, hosts, lake associations, and community members. Through their support, Chaffey’s Area Lakes Association, Black Lake Property Owners’ Association, North & South Otter Lake Association, and Eagle Lake Property Owners’ Association were invaluable partners to the Love Your Lake program in 2025. Participating property owners on these lakes can expect their private, confidential, and non-regulatory shoreline assessment reports by mail or email in 2026.
Love Your Lake is a shoreline evaluation and stewardship program for waterfront communities across Canada. To participate, lake associations and organizations volunteer their lakes to participate. If accepted, every property owner that opts into the program on the lake is assessed using a standardized shoreline assessment protocol which generates a personalized, confidential property report for each landowner. These reports provide individuals with property-specific information on the state of their shoreline and recommend voluntary actions to improve the shoreline and overall lake health for people and wildlife.

The Love Your Lake program was developed and is managed by the Canadian Wildlife Federation and Watersheds Canada. Participating in Love Your Lake allows communities to gauge the health of their lake and become a better steward of their local freshwater.
