This World Wetlands Day, protect what protects us!

February 2, 2026 By Monica Seidel Leave a Comment

Wetlands are often overlooked and undervalued. However, acre for acre, few places on Earth give back to our water, climate, and wildlife more than wetlands. This World Wetlands Day, I urge you to look below the surface to see the incredible power held by these spaces, and donate to support Watersheds Canada’s work in restoring them.

I want to support Canada’s wetlands with a donation!

With wetlands, we’re only seeing half the picture. Under the surface are layers of organic matter that mitigate climate change, prevent flooding, and regulate water quality.

Admired for years for our habitat work both in and around lakes and rivers, Watersheds Canada is also now recognized as a major partner in wetland creations. Newly constructed wetlands will prosper thanks to our various wetland conservation partners and landowners. These new habitats are also thanks to your donations to Watersheds Canada, and we need more help from you for the upcoming wetland projects!

I want to take action on wetland restoration now!

Watersheds Canada staff and volunteers are down in the dirt, planting new wetland banks with native plants for waterfowl and pollinators. We educate about the value of wetlands and also make buffer zone planting plans with farmers, re-creating ecosystems that were once lost. Our work is creating water retention areas to improve water quality and quantity, and gets local families out to help with our wetland work.

The Natural Edge program staff work alongside volunteers to create a new vegetated buffer along a constructed wetland.

Our teams has more wetlands sites that need restoration as soon as possible! With your donation today of $30, $20, or even $10, you can expand the impact of these types of projects in 2026 and beyond.

I want to build back wonderful wetlands with my donation!

Wetland naturalization provides the spark that ignites a wave of change, lasting for generations and generations to come – and it all starts here, with a single donation from you.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our organization, and happy World Wetlands Day!

P.S. You can make an even bigger impact for wetland restoration work by becoming a monthly donor! Scheduled giving helps us know what money we have available each year to deliver impactful and vital restoration programs like The Natural Edge program. Donating $10, $20, or even $50 a month — $120, $240, or $600 per year — has a huge impact! Thank you for your generosity.
