6 Free French Educational Resources to Help You Teach about Nature at Home
We recently wrote about 7 free resource libraries to help with learning in your household, all with a focus on nature. We received such positive feedback from parents and educators who were able to use these resources while teaching from home that we decided to create another list! This time, we are featuring 6 free French resources to teach about nature:
- Canadian Geographic Education’s “Canadian Atlas Online”: Canadian Geographic is owned by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and focuses on communicating stories about Canadian people, places, frontiers, and issues (past and present). CanGeo Education offers lesson plans and activities that can be filtered by province/territory, grade level, and theme. Topics include the Boreal shield, wind power, climate change, and watersheds, among others.
- Forests Ontario’s “Éducation en matière de forêts”: Forests Ontario is a non-profit registered charity dedicated to making Ontario’s forests greener. They have a heavy focus on education programs and opportunities to give students hands-on experiences. Their education library features fact sheets, games and activities, and lesson plans that can be filtered by grade level and subject.
- Government of Canada’s “Espèces en péril: centre d’éducation”: The Species at Risk Education Centre offers information sheets, posters, and tips to help Canada’s Species at Risk, including the Monarch Butterfly, Sage grouse, Chimney Swift, Five-leaved ginseng, and Piping Plover.
- Canadian Wildlife Federation’s “Pour les enseignants et les moniteurs”: The Canadian Wildlife Federation’s is registered charity whose mission is to conserve and inspire the conservation of Canada’s wildlife and habitats for the use and enjoyment of all. They offer a host of lessons, educational resources, and webinars covering topics like: migration, biodiversity, stewardship, the boreal forest, gardening and pollinators, birds, and climate change. Lessons can be searched by keyword.
- Sierra Club, British Columbia (French Resources): Sierra Club BC works to defend B.C’s wild places and species, within the urgent context of climate change. They have a dedicated educational resources area with activities to help kids connect with nature during a time of physical distancing. They offer resources from kindergarten to grade 6 covering topics like: temperate rainforest, web of life, and a scavenger hunt.
- Ressources pour repenser: Education for the Earth is a Canadian not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote knowledge, skills, perspectives, and practices essential to a sustainable future, through education. Parents and educators can filter resources, action projects, investigative resources, and lesson plans by province/territory, grade level, subject, topic, or by alignment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
