Trout Spawning Restoration Projects
Diamond Lake – Lake Trout Spawning Bed Enhancement Project
Diamond Lake, Ontario is home to a historic trout spawning bed. In this two-step project, volunteers first swept silt off the shoal and power washed the bed. The washed bed was further enhanced in winter 2022 when more rocks were placed over the bed on the frozen ice. As the ice melted in the spring, the rocks fell into place. The Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund donated critical funds to launch the restoration process of this trout spawning bed. All Watersheds Canada fish habitat projects are completed with applicable permits and approval by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Kamaniskeg Lake – Lake Trout Spawning Bed Enhancement Project
A historic lake trout spawning bed was washed and restored on Kamaniskeg Lake in August 2025. This involved the manual sweeping of silt and algae off the spawning bed rocks by volunteers and then the use of a power washing hose. This project was possible because of funding provided by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, Kamaniskeg Area Property Owners Association, iA Financial Group, and Echo Foundation. All Watersheds Canada fish habitat projects are completed with applicable permits and approval by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Paugh Lake – Lake Trout Spawning Bed Enhancement Project
Paugh Lake, Ontario is known for its cold-water fishery. The bed was enhanced in winter 2024 when more rocks were placed over the bed on the frozen ice. Funding for this project was thanks to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund, Honda Canada Foundation, and Ontario Wildlife Foundation. All Watersheds Canada fish habitat projects are completed with applicable permits and approval by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
