Watersheds Canada is honoured to be accepted as a member of the Ontario Biodiversity Council! The Ontario Biodiversity Council was created in 2005 and represents conservation and environmental groups, industry associations, Indigenous organizations, natural history institutions, academia, and government agencies. Watersheds Canada and the Ontario Biodiversity Council recognize the importance of biodiversity and are taking steps to conserve it as an essential part of building an ecologically sustainable and strong future for the province.
Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy serves to guide conservation efforts across the province to enhance and protect our ecosystem, genetic, and species diversity for future generations. The Strategy supports and encourages the efforts of communities and individuals to conserve Ontario’s biodiversity and address climate change concerns with a whole-of-society approach.
Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy aligns well with Watersheds Canada’s programs and online resources available to Ontario residents wanting to take action in their local communities to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems. Watersheds Canada is excited to collaborate with the Council and provide policy, education, shoreline naturalization, and fish habitat enhancement programs to help reach this unified goal.
Robert Pye, representing Watersheds Canada, is delighted to join the Ontario Biodiversity Council to work together to empower all people to value, respect, and take steps to conserve and sustainably manage biodiversity.
